Indianapolis Clowns – Roster, Schedule, Standings & Results

The Indianapolis Clowns are one of six teams in the Banana Ball Championship League (BBCL) and the sixth franchise to join the league. Unlike the other five teams, the Clowns are not a new creation — they are a revival of one of the most historically significant teams in American baseball, brought back through a formal partnership between Banana Ball and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

The original Indianapolis Clowns played in the Negro Leagues beginning in the 1930s, becoming known as much for entertainment as for baseball. The franchise signed Hank Aaron to his first professional contract, featured Satchel Paige, and was one of the first teams to give women full-time professional contracts, including Toni Stone, Mamie “Peanut” Johnson, and Connie Morgan. The team went inactive in 1989.

The Clowns were announced as returning on October 9, 2025, with Bob Kendrick, president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, personally introducing the team during the BBCL’s City Selection Show. The revival was explicitly framed as both entertainment and education — a way to bring the history of the Negro Leagues to new audiences through Banana Ball’s format.

The modern Clowns are coached by Errick Fox, with former MLB MVP and World Series champion Ryan Howard serving as the team’s “Prime Time Coach.” The roster made national headlines when the team selected 2018 World Series champion and Gold Glove winner Jackie Bradley Jr. with the first overall pick of the inaugural Banana Ball draft, making him the first former MLB player to commit to Banana Ball full time.

Indianapolis Clowns Roster

The Clowns’ 2026 roster is led by Jackie Bradley Jr. in center field, joined by players including Joe Gray Jr., Chris Burgess, Niko Hulsizer, Correlle Prime, Gage Voorhees, Vinny Santarsiero, and Clark Gilmore, among others.

Bradley’s presence gives the roster a level of professional pedigree unique among BBCL expansion teams — an 11-year MLB veteran with a 2018 World Series title, an ALCS MVP award, and a Gold Glove, now playing full time in Banana Ball. As with every BBCL club, the full roster shifts throughout the season with call-ups and trades, so it should be treated as a living document rather than a fixed list.

Indianapolis Clowns 2026 BBCL Standings

The 2026 season is the first year the BBCL has operated as a formal championship league with a standings table, and also the first season for the modern Indianapolis Clowns as a franchise. Teams are ranked by win percentage, since not every club plays the same number of games.

Top 4 teams will qualify for the playoffs.

As of mid-August 2026, the Clowns sit at the bottom of the overall standings, outside the projected playoff line — a difficult first season for the league’s newest and most historically significant franchise.

With the top four teams by win percentage advancing to the league’s first-ever postseason in October, the Clowns’ remaining games are focused on building toward next season as much as closing the gap in 2026.

Indianapolis Clowns Recent Results

The Clowns’ inaugural Banana Ball game came against the Party Animals at Victory Field in Indianapolis, a two-game series in which the Clowns fell 6–2 in the opener in front of nearly 15,000 fans, followed by a 4–1 loss in the series finale — the latter marking Jackie Bradley Jr.’s full-time Banana Ball debut, in which he singled to left field in his first at-bat.

Despite the results, both games drew large, enthusiastic crowds, with the franchise’s historical significance drawing as much attention as the final score.

Full box scores and a complete game log are maintained on the league’s official results page and update after every game.

Indianapolis Clowns Player Stats

Banana Ball does not publish a centralized statistics leaderboard in the way traditional baseball leagues do. That’s largely because its scoring system — points earned per inning rather than total runs — doesn’t map cleanly onto conventional stat categories like batting average or ERA.

Individual player performance data, where available, is tracked through the league’s official roster and player profile pages rather than a single stats hub. This section is best filled in manually as verified figures become available, rather than populated with placeholder or estimated numbers.

History

The original Indianapolis Clowns trace back to a barnstorming team founded in the 1930s and became part of the Negro Leagues, where they earned a reputation as the Negro Leagues’ answer to the Harlem Globetrotters — a team built as much around entertainment as competition. The Clowns signed a young Hank Aaron to his first professional contract and featured legends including Satchel Paige. The team was also historically significant off the field, becoming one of the first professional baseball organizations to give women full-time contracts, including Toni Stone, Mamie “Peanut” Johnson, and Connie Morgan. The franchise continued barnstorming for decades after MLB’s integration before going inactive in 1989.

The revival began in October 2025, when Banana Ball founder Jesse Cole announced a formal partnership with the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum to bring the Clowns back as part of the league’s expansion to six teams. Museum president Bob Kendrick personally introduced the team, framing the partnership as an opportunity to educate fans about Negro Leagues history alongside the entertainment Banana Ball is known for.

The team’s return gained national attention in November 2025, when the Clowns selected Jackie Bradley Jr. with the first overall pick of the inaugural Banana Ball player draft. Bradley, an 11-year MLB veteran, 2018 World Series champion, and Gold Glove winner, became the first former MLB player to commit to Banana Ball on a full-time basis, citing his desire to honor the Clowns’ history and help grow the sport for the next generation of players.

The Clowns played their first official Banana Ball game on May 15, 2026 against the Party Animals at Victory Field in Indianapolis — the same city the historic franchise once called home — in front of a crowd of nearly 15,000 fans.

The League

The Banana Ball Championship League was formally founded in 2026 under commissioner Jesse Cole, growing out of the original Savannah Bananas barnstorming tour that began in 2018. The league’s six teams are the Savannah Bananas, Party Animals, Firefighters, Texas Tailgaters, Loco Beach Coconuts, and Indianapolis Clowns.

The league plays under its own rule set rather than standard baseball rules. Games are decided by points scored per inning rather than total runs, there’s a two-hour time limit, bunting is banned, and batters can’t step out of the box. Walks are replaced by “ball-four sprints,” and fans who catch foul balls in the stands record an out.

The league’s championship game has been named the Banana Bowl, with the inaugural edition scheduled for October 10, 2026 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
